I was born over a decade after Bobby Darin died, so I know about him only through songs. Now that I've watched "Beyond the Sea", I feel almost like I know him personally. Kevin Spacey, who also directs, plays the famous singer whose real name was Walden Robert Cassotto. Showing Darin's career, his struggles with rheumatic fever, and his tempestuous marriage to Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth), the movie is like any biopic, but certainly worth seeing. It was really something seeing Darin doing folk music after having been a teen idol. Either way, Bobby Darin was quite a guy. I'm going to have to get my hands on a CD compilation of his songs.

This wreck is an insult to the charismatic, attractive and talented Bobby Darrin and Sandra Dee.It is just an ego project of searly Kevin Spacey. I cannot imagine how it was greenlit. Spacey was far too old for this. The only thing he had in common with Darrin was the hairpiece. The dance scene is so bad it is painful.

The dance numbers, young Bobby older bobby Hippy bobby makes a very bad mix. I loved bobby Darin and I hated this movie. Kevin Spacey might have done some irreversible damage to his career. Although I found the singing quite good it certainly does not duplicate the charm and magic of Darn. There is something perverted about Spacey's look (not to speak his relationship with young Sandra). Don't get me wrong I was a Spacey fan until I saw him in this then I was not
